Our Philospophy
Our training philosophy begins with one simple question: Why?
Before creating a training or behavior modification plan, we believe it's important to understand why a dog is exhibiting a particular behavior in the first place. Rather than asking, "How do we fix this?" we first ask, "Why is this happening?" By identifying the underlying cause, we can develop a thoughtful, effective approach that supports lasting change.
At Prestigious Pooch, we pride ourselves on our attention to detail and our ability to recognize the nuances of canine behavior. With a combined 30 years of experience and education in the field, we work with dogs of all breeds, personalities, and behavioral challenges through our board and train program and private in-home consultations. Our goal is to help dogs and their owners build stronger relationships through compassionate, individualized training rooted in understanding.
Who We Are
We are Cora and Sim, certified professional dog trainers and husband-and-wife team.
Located in the stunning Los Padres National Forest, our board-and-train program provides a safe, structured, and enriching environment where dogs can learn and grow through positive reinforcement-based methods. We are committed to achieving meaningful, long-term results while strengthening the bond between dogs and their families.
For those who prefer to train at home, Prestigious Pooch also offers private in-home sessions tailored to each dog's unique needs. Whether in your home or our's, we strive to create an experience that is welcoming, educational, and free of judgment, making training enjoyable for both dogs and their owners.
Behavioral Focus
Every behavior has a reason behind it. We work closely with dogs and their owners to understand the root cause of unwanted behaviors so we can develop a thoughtful, individualized approach to training. By addressing the underlying issue, we can help dogs and their families make meaningful progress toward their goals.
We commonly work with concerns such as reactivity toward people, other dogs, sounds, and environmental triggers, as well as anxiety, aggression, hyperactivity, and any behaviors that may be affecting life at home.
Nutrition Matters
Did you know that your dog's diet can affect both their behavior and their physical well-being? Dogs eating diets high in processed ingredients, including excess sugars and grains that may not suit their individual needs, can sometimes experience changes in energy levels, focus, and motivation. When a dog's body is working harder to process certain foods, it may affect how they feel and function throughout the day. Because every dog is different, we encourage owners to view nutrition as one of many important factors that contribute to their dog's overall health, behavior, and quality of life.
Next Steps
Where Do We Go From Here?
We start with a brief phone consultation to learn more about the challenges you are experiencing and the goals you have for your dog. From there, we will schedule an in-home consultation to observe your dog's behavior in their everyday environment and better understand your family's unique dynamics.
We will discuss canine behavior in a way that is practical and easy to understand, then create a personalized training plan designed to help you reach your goals.
Training should be fun for both dogs and their people. Using positive reinforcement and reward-based methods, we strive to make the process educational, supportive, and enjoyable for the whole family.
