Prestigious Pooch is able to offer a unique experience by providing a consistent and safe board and train environment at their home in the beautiful Los Padres National Forest. Cora and Sim also offer private in home training that allows owners and dogs to learn in the comfort of their own homes.
Our training philosophy is that we do what works best for your dog. The approach that we take will vary depending on the individual dog we are working with, but will always use science based, positive reinforcement methods to achieve the desired results. When working with an owner and dog combination, we like to evaluate them in their home environment and provide the owner with specific, custom tailored suggestions and useful, positive methods that will best work for them and their dog.
Owner education and participation is key to a successful training routine and a happy, shared home with their dogs. We see each dog as an individual and strive to understand the behavioral science behind a behavior before trying to fix it. Every dog has different likes and dislikes, just like we do, so it is important to understand what motivates your dog and to be realistic with the owner’s expectations.
We believe that to effectively communicate with dogs, we need to speak to them in a language that they understand, rather than expecting them to understand our language through intimidation and physical force. Humans were the ones to domesticate dogs, with most being selectively bred for very specific jobs and behaviors, so we owe it to our best friends to teach them how to live in our world through patience and understanding. It is our goal to help dogs and humans live in harmony and enjoy a healthy, fulfilling life together.
